Autism Education Trust

The purpose of the AET is to improve the education of children and young people with autism.

The Autism Education Trust (AET) is a partnership between Ambitious about Autism, the Autism Alliance and the National Autistic Society (NAS). It is funded and supported by the Department for Education (DfE) and hosted on behalf of the partnership by the NAS.

The AET is a partnership of a wide range of individuals and organisations focused on improving the education of children and young people with autism from the voluntary, public and private sectors. It also actively engages with young people, parents/carers and practitioners to inform its work.

The AET is funded by its contracts and grants from DfE and income from its training and materials.

Dean Beadle

Dean Beadle is a successful adult with Aspergers Syndrome. He is an experienced journalist, and he tours extensively speaking about his experiences with Aspergers; discussing how he developed from a child considered a “monster” to an A-Grade Student. Dean’s story highlights a humorous and moving personal experience of life in education with Aspergers, and proves just how big a difference parents and professionals can make to children on the spectrum.


Graham Music

Graham Music has undertaken extensive trainings as both an adult and a child and adolescent psychotherapist. He works with adults and parents in private practice and with children and adolescents primarily in the NHS.  He has worked at the Tavistock Clinic in London for over a decade, an internationally renowned NHS  Foundation Trust which provides clinical services and trains therapists and other professionals.  He teaches on the child psychotherapy and other psychological therapy courses at the Tavistock, and supervises therapists there. He also leads on training in child development, neuroscience and attachment theory, and has a particular interest in linking cutting-edge developmental findings with therapeutic practice. His clinical work in the NHS is primarily with issues of trauma and the effect of maltreatment on children as well as on the families and other adults in the lives of such children.

I CAN is the children’s communication charity. We are experts in helping children develop the speech, language and communication skills they need to thrive in a 21st century world. Our vision is a world where all children have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential. Our mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding.

Kate Cairns Associates

Our mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by changing the practice of those who work with them. We do this by sharing transformative knowledge, encouraging deep reflective practice, and empowering individuals and organisations to make a difference.

Being able to communicate is one of the most important skills we need in life. Almost everything we do involves communication; everyday tasks such as learning at school, asking for food and drink, sorting out problems, making friends and having fun. These all rely on our ability to communicate with each other.

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.

Nurture Group Network

The Nurture Group Network exists to promote the development of nurture groups and to ensure the continuing quality of their delivery through accredited training programmes, research on effective practice, relevant publications and information exchange. Its aim is to make the nurture group approach available to all pupils who need it and also to ensure that the connections between learning and early development are understood throughout education.
